Obama Administration plans to Expand Protection for California’s ‘Blue Serengeti’

The Obama administration has decided to double the size of two federal marine sanctuaries off California's north-central coast. The areas are described as 'blue Serengeti' by scientists. On Thursday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced that the size of Gulf of the Farallones and Cordell Bank national marine sanctuaries will be expanded. The decision has been taken after more than a decade of debate and research.

Sun releases huge X-Class solar flare: NASA Report

An image has been taken by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), which shows a mid-level solar flare on March 11, 2015. It looks like a bright flash of light near the center of the solar disk.

On Wednesday, the massive X-class solar flare emerged at 12:22 EDT. It has been grouped as a sun storm. It emerged from a sunspot called as the Active 12297 Region. According to the Space, the Solar Dynamics Observatory of NASA also captured its video.

Lockheed Martin Unveils its Jupiter and Exoliner Spaceship

Lockheed Martin, on Thursday, has revealed that it is one of the companies, competing for a contract to fly cargo to the International Space Station for NASA.

The proposal is not part of Lockheed's ongoing partnership, including arrangements through United Launch Alliance, the joint-venture it operates with Boeing, to provide Atlas 5 rockets and launch services to two other bidders.

Alike competitors Boeing and Sierra Nevada Corp., Lockheed would also use an Atlas 5 rocket to fly its cargo ship. It would include a reusable canister-like tug called Jupiter and a cargo carrier called Exoliner.

UK Space Agency to Collaborate with Space Tech Companies to boost CubeSat Space Internet Plan

The UK space agency revealed in an announcement on Friday about its plans to work with space tech companies Clyde Space and Outernet to provide worldwide space-based Internet access.

"A partnership with the UK Space Agency is a very exciting step for Outernet. It not only demonstrates a meeting of the minds on the importance of information access, but shows that there can be very concrete economic windfalls from doing enormous good in the world", the company's CEO, Syed Karim, said in a news release.

Researchers create device for 3-D printing of small molecules

A new device has been developed by researchers from the University of Illinois, which serves as a 3-D printer. It can operate at the molecular level to collect complex small molecules and that too just with help of a computer. Today, most of the medicines comprise complex small molecules and this new approach could help develop more such drugs. This technology could also prove its potential in field of chemical technology.

Helicopter crashes in Oklahoma on Thursday

The Federal Aviation Administration informed that a medical helicopter crashed in Oklahoma on Thursday. But there is no information about any casualties. It is believed that the helicopter was carrying minimum three people.

FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford said that the aircraft went down around 11:25 p. m. local time near Eufala. The helicopter that registered to EagleMed LLC was flying from Tulsa to McAlester. Lunsford as well as city and county authorities have not informed anything about the condition of those on board.
