Failure of New Regulation to Cap Vapor Pressure of North Dakota Raises Concerns among Industry Experts

Industry experts stated that new regulations framed to cap vapor pressure of North Dakota crude failed to account how it behaves in transit.

This failure has raised concerns about whether the state's much-anticipated rules will make oil train shipments safer, they said.

High vapor pressure has been identified as a possible reason in the fireball explosions witnessed after oil train derailments in Illinois and West Virginia in recent weeks.

For over a year, federal officials have warned that crude from North Dakota's Bakken shale oilfields contains a cocktail of explosive gas known in the industry as 'light ends'.

China Shows Weakness in World’s Second-Biggest Economy in March

The surveys done on China's factory and services sectors have shown stubborn weakness in the world's second-biggest economy in March. This has supported the fact that Beijing will have to roll out more policy support to avoid a severe slowdown.

According to three different surveys, Chinese companies shed jobs last month due to their struggle with soft demand and deflationary pressures.

This has suggested that in the first quarter of 2015, the economic growth may have slipped below 7%, which would be the weakest in six years.

Zhang Zhiwei, an economist at Deutsche Bank in Hong Kong, said, "We expect first-quarter growth to drop to 6.8 percent and the government might start easing policies significantly in the second quarter".

Pavement Ants Significantly Changing their Diets to Human Foods

Researchers conducted a study on the diet of urban ants. Clint Penick, a postdoctoral researcher at North Carolina State University, travelled to Broadway to collect specimens.

Penick was trying to find out whether city ants, like their human counterparts, were eating a junk food-heavy diet. The answer came out to be yes, as some of them are, finds the study published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

The study came to know that like humans, ants have nuanced eating habits. Researchers came to know that a diet heavy in grasses like corn and sugarcane will be reflected through the presence of carbon-13, a carbon isotope.
