Pinterest celebrates its Fifth Birthday

Pinterest is a web and mobile application company, which operates an eponymous photo sharing website. Here, users can share photos with other users. It was launched in March 2010, which means it has turned to Five now. In its five years of life, Pinterest has become a favorite spot for people where users can upload, save, sort, and manage images, known as pins.

It has become a place where people like to share ideas and creativity. Pinterest has fueled a new method to look for items. The new method has been stealing traffic from Internet companies like Google. Currently, the company has more than 300 employees. According to a recent statement of the company, the company is valued at about $11 billion.

Sony agrees to sell 50% Stake in Olympus

Japanese multinational conglomerate company Sony Corporation has agreed to sell half of its stake in Japan-based Olympus Corporation to fund strategic investments. The company headquartered in K? nan Minato, Tokyo has made the decision about two year after both companies formed a medical-device venture.

On Wednesday, the electronics maker released a statement where it said that Sony has entered a deal to sell the shares to global financial services firm JPMorgan Chase & Co. The move has reduced its Olympus holding to approximately 5%. In a separate statement which has been released on Thursday, Sony said that the stock sold for about 71.8 billion yen.

HSBC Too Slow to Fix Some Compliance Issues, says Monitor

According to a US independent monitor, the pace of HSBC Holdings Plc. is very slow in fixing some of its compliance issues.

Monitor Michael Cherkasky's report, which was summarized in a court filing, has praised the lender for the compliance efforts of top leaders. It has also appreciated the HSBC's adoption of anti-money-laundering standards.

However, in the monitor’s view, the bank's corporate culture and rusty technology systems have curtailed the implementation of those standards. It believes that HSBC group canâ€"and mustâ€" should do more.

The appointment of Cherkasky, a Manhattan prosecutor, was done in connection with HSBC's deferred prosecution agreement with the US. He chaired the New York State Commission on Public Integrity.

Allegiant Air will not go on strike

Pilots at Allegiant Air, an American low-cost airline owned by Allegiant Travel Co., will not be going on strike as a temporary restraining order has been issued by a federal court. People having travel plans will not have to think about cancelling their plans now. The court order blocked Allegiant Airlines' pilots from going on strike.

The strike would have cancelled 250 flights and because of that more than 30,000 people would have got affected. At the Chicago Rockford International Airport, the planes of the airlines have the capacity to fly 2,000 people a week. Allegiant doesn't have sufficient replacement crews to fly its normal schedule.

Federal Regulators charge Kraft and Mondelez for Manipulating Wheat and Wheat Futures Prices

Federal regulators have charged two major US food companies, Kraft and Mondelez, for manipulating prices for wheat and wheat futures in a scheme that earned profits of more than $5.4 million.

The civil charges against the companies were announced by the Commodity Futures trading Commission yesterday.

The agency also said that both the companies also used manipulative trading strategies in December 2011 in an attempt to artificially lower wheat prices on the spot market.

Northfield based company, Kraft, is a producer of Oscar Meyer cold cuts, Jell-O pudding and Velveeta cheese that are among other well-known brands.

Oreo cookies, Cadbury chocolate and Trident gum are among the brands of Mondelez, in Deerfield, Ill.

Group of Western-State Governors Releases Report to Conserve Habitat of Sage Grouse

A report has been released by a group of Western-state governors on voluntary efforts in 11 states, aimed at conserving the habitat of sage grouse.

This is a part of an attempt to avoid a federal listing of the bird under the federal Endangered Species Act. The Western Governors' Association released the 32-page '2014 Sage-Grouse Inventory' on Thursday.

Idaho Gov. C. L. 'Butch' Otter said that the states have surely completed work that was asked of them to help the federal government understand that a listing is not required. Otter has also suggested ideas to protect habitat incorporated by federal planners.
