Washington - A court in the United States laid down a 1.9-million-dollar fine against a Minnesota woman who illegally downloaded 24 songs from the internet, CNN reported.

The trial against Jammie Thomas-Rasset was the first case in the United States for such copyright infringement, CNN quoted her lawyer as saying.

The 32-year-old mother of four was shocked by the fine as the price tag for legally downloading the songs that would have cost 99 cents each and planned to appeal, he said.

The subsidiary of General Electric Company of United States – General Electric India or GE India has got Validated End User (VEU) authorization from the US department of commerce. With the US authorization, the GE India has been permitted license-free exports of US export-controlled technology.

The US Commerce Secretary Gary Locke has confirmed that GE India has got the validated end-user (VEU) status; the company is allowed to receive certain controlled US technology, such as civilian aircraft technology and explosive detection equipment.

Tokyo - The world's oldest man, Tomoji Tanabe, died of cardiac failure in southern Japan Friday. He was 113 years old.

Tanabe was listed as the world's oldest man by Guinness World Records in January 2007.

He fell ill in May at his home and could not eat for three days before his death, Jiji Press said.

Tanabe was known to get up at 5:30 am to read newspapers before breakfast, and for never missing his three meals a day and glass of milk in the afternoon.

He had said the key to longevity is "no drinking or smoking."

London, June 19 : Natascha Kampusch, who made headlines around the world when she was able to escape her kidnapper after being held for eight years in a dungeon in Austria, is reportedly in talks to strip off to promote animal rights.

After becoming the new face of PETA in Austria, Kampusch is apparently planning to bare all to protest against animal cruelty, reports The Sun.

A PETA spokesman said: "It''s possible, but not arranged yet."

London, June 19 : British Prince William is desperate for an opportunity to fight for his country, while his younger brother Harry hopes that he will once again get a chance to return to Afghanistan as a helicopter pilot.

Both Princes are currently training at the Defence Helicopter Flying School at RAF Shawbury in Shropshire.

While William is flying twin-engined Griffins on his way to becoming an RAF search-and-rescue pilot, Harry is training for the Army Air Corps in the single-engine Squirrel.

Washington, June 19 : Performance of a large number of electronic devices, including digital cameras, could soon be enhanced, for researchers have now created light sensor-like a pixel in a digital camera-that benefits from a phenomenon known as multi-exciton generation (MEG).

University of Toronto (UT) scientists, who led the research, claim that they are the first group to have collected an electrical current from a device that makes use of MEG.
