Washington D.C. [USA], Oct. 6 : The veterinary experts at The Ohio State University issued new guidance for halting the spread of a multitude of dog diseases

Veterinarian Jason Stull said the advice, which appears in a user friendly guide, is intended to be a tool for those in charge of

canine group settings and for dog owners.

"When you have many dogs in a fairly confined space, the opportunities for disease transmission are everywhere," Stull said.

Stull and his co-authors want their work to lead to written infection prevention and control plans for settings where dogs congregate.

Washington D.C. [USA], Oct. 6 : A recent study shows how bans on smoking at a certain place, led young people living in those areas to give up or never take up cigarettes.

In particular, the study found that young males, who were light smokers, were more likely to give up cigarettes after a ban came into effect.

Smokers, who lived in areas where there was never a ban, weren't likely to drop their cigarette habit.

However, smoking bans did not seem to affect tobacco use among women, although their use was already below that of men.

Co-author of the study Mike Vuolo said, "These findings provide some of the most robust evidence to date on the impact of smoking bans on young people's smoking."

D.C [USA], Oct. 6 : While people with dementia are up to eight times more likely than normal people of the same age to be get involved in car accidents, a recent study states that there is no exact age when people with dementia should stop driving, but it should be determined by exploring the mental or physical tests.

Since dementia makes it difficult for people to evaluate their own ability to drive safely, the decision about when to stop driving must be based on objective tests.

To determine which kinds of tests best evaluate driving safety, researchers from Macquarie University analysed 28 studies that investigated the relationship between driving and cognitive function in people with dementia.

Washington D.C. [USA], Oct. 6 : The anti-HIV drug Truvada has proved to be very effective at preventing new infections when taken by people at high risk, who strictly adhere to the drug therapy regime.

A new study states the cost-effectiveness of this intervention, commonly known as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and counts its additional benefits.

Researchers at the St. Michael's Hospital developed a mathematical model to evaluate the impact of PrEP on the number of new HIV infections among gay men in Toronto, the number of HIV-related deaths averted and the cost impact on the health-care system.

Previous studies have found that a daily dose of Truvada could reduce HIV acquisition in men who have sex with men by 44 percent, or as much as 99 percent with high adherence.

Rampur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Oct 6 : Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister and Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Thursday asserted that it would not be wise to public the videos of surgical strikes conducted by the Indian Army across the Line of Control (LoC).

Khan told ANI, "I don't think making surgical strike video public is a wise idea. Surgical strikes were conducted in the past as well but then also no videos were made public. We don't do publicity of such attacks."

Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Ahir yesterday said the army has handed over video clips of the cross Line of Control (LoC) operation to the government as per the laid down procedure.

New Delhi [India], Oct. 6 : The Patiala House Court will today pronounce its order on whether to summon Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani on a complaint filed against her for allegedly giving false information regarding her academic qualifications.

Irani had given information about her educational qualifications in affidavits to the Election Commission to contest various elections.

In June last year, a case was filed by freelance writer Ahmed Khan, who accused Irani of providing contradictory affidavits about her educational qualifications during different elections.

Khan's lawyer had informed the court that Irani, in her affidavit for 2004 Lok Sabha elections, stated her educational qualification as B.A. from Delhi University (school of correspondence).
