Naidu to meet Mukherjee on tainted ministers

N-Chandrababu-NaiduHyderabad, May 15 : Leaders of the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will meet President Pranab Mukherjee to demand that tainted ministers in Andhra Pradesh be sacked, party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu said Wednesday.

Naidu told reporters that his party had sought an appointment with the president to submit a memorandum. The delegation led by Naidu is likely to call on the president on May 22 or 23 in New Delhi.

Naidu had called on Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan Monday to demand sacking of tainted ministers. He said the governor, despite being the constitutional head, failed to take any action.


Andhra CM to visit Delhi to discuss tainted ministers

kiran-kumarHyderabad, May 15 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy goes to New Delhi later Wednesday amid dissidence and increasing demands within the Congress party to drop tainted ministers.

He is likely to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi, party general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad and other leaders to discuss issues facing the party and the government, party sources said.

A section of ministers, including state Congress chief Botsa Satyanarayana, held a series of meetings during last few days and reportedly complained to the leadership about the unilateral decisions being taken by the chief minister.


Senior leader Srihari quits TDP

The former state minister, a key leader in the Telangana region, announced his decision to resign from TDP after consultation with his followers in Warangal district.

State Bank of Hyderabad's net down by 3.70 percentHyderabad, May 8 : State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) has reported net profit decline of 3.70 percent for fiscal 2012-13. The profit during the year was Rs. 1,250 crore against Rs. 1,298 crore during 2011-12.

Announcing the results for the fourth quarter and the year, SBH managing director M. Bhagavantha Rao attributed the decline to Rs. 485 crore provided for strengthening the balance sheet. He said the bank increased the provision coverage ratio to 65 percent from 62.40 percent.


State Bank of Hyderabad to continue as independent bank

State-Bank-of-HyderabadHyderabad, May 8 : State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) Wednesday said it is not considering merger with the State Bank of India (SBI) and that it will continue as an independent bank.

SBI chairman Pratip Chaudhuri had said on Monday that the issue of consolidation of SBI's associate banks may be taken up for consideration after July.

SBH managing director M. Bhagavantha Rao told reporters here that it was not thinking of merger for now.


HIL trains artisans for construction industry

HIL-Limited1Hyderabad, May 1 : HIL Limited, a flagship company of the C. K. Birla Group of companies, has joined hands with an NGO in Andhra Pradesh to train and build a talent pool of artisans for the construction industry, an official said Wednesday.

Under the initiative, HIL, formerly Hyderabad Industries Limited, rolled out its first pilot project aimed at creating employment opportunities for the rural and economically weaker people.

Under the project titled 'Tarakki ki Chhaon Mein', HIL alongwith Shramika Educational Society enrolled 25 students from rural Andhra Pradesh for a 45-day course.


TAJGVK's profit declines 68 percent in 2012-13

TAJGVK-HotelsHyderabad, April 30 : TAJGVK Hotels & Resorts Limited's profit declined 68 percent during fiscal 2012-13 and the same came down 88 percent during the fourth quarter ended March 31.

The company, which Tuesday announced its results for Q4 and the year, attributed the decline to slowdown in the economy, increased competition in all geographies and the higher interest and depreciation for its new property.

TAJGVK, a strategic alliance between the Hyderabad-based GVK Group and Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), said its profit before tax was at Rs. 13.60 crore for year ended Mar 2013, compared to Rs. 42.78 crore in the previous year.


Granules India's net profit up by 8 percent

Granules-India-LtdHyderabad, April 25 : Granules India Ltd., a fast growing pharmaceutical manufacturing company, has reported eight percent growth in the net profit during 2012-13.

The company earned a net profit of Rs. 33 crore against Rs. 30 crore during the previous year.

The net sales during the year were Rs. 764 crore, an increase of 17 percent over 2011-12.


Infotech's Q4 net down 12 percent

Infotech-Enterprises-1Hyderabad, April 25 : Global engineering solutions company Infotech Enterprises has reported Rs. 54 crore net profit during the fourth quarter ended March 31, down by 12.3 percent over the previous quarter.

The revenues during the quarter were Rs. 464 crore, down 2.2 percent QoQ but an increase of 11.3 percent compared to the same quarter previous year.

In dollar terms, the revenues were $86 million, up 3.6 percent YoY but down 1.9 percent QoQ.


Row over Telangana mines for Vizag Steel Plant hots up

Vizag-Steel-Plant1Hyderabad, April 22 : The row over the allocation of iron ore mines of Telangana for Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) hotted up Monday with a minister from Andhra region asking Telangana leaders not to whip up regional feelings over the issue.

Infrastructure Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who addressed a meeting organized by workers at VSP in the costal city of Visakhapatnam, reminded Telangana leaders that their region was getting gas and milk from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.

"Will you keep quiet if these supplies are stopped," he asked.


Ford India plans to make India export hub

Ford-IndiaHyderabad, April 19 : Auto major Ford India, which is gearing up to roll out its much-awaited compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Ford Ecosport in a couple of months, plans to make India the export hub. It is targeting 25 percent exports of its total vehicle capacity in the country.

The vehicle capacity at both its existing plant in Chennai and the upcoming plant near Ahmedabad, which scheduled to become operational next year, will be 440,000 per annum. The engine capacity will be 610,000 units.


American choreographer sets his sights on Indian cinema

Andhra police to quickly reach trouble spots

Andhra-Pradesh-PoliceHyderabad, April 11 : Police in Andhra Pradesh will now be able to quickly reach trouble spots anywhere in the state with the extension of the 'Dial 100' facility that was hitherto available only in the cities.

With the '108' ambulance service proving a huge hit in the state over the last few years, the police have also set up a centralized call centre for 'Dial 100'.

Just like an ambulance reaching within minutes of '108' being called, the police will now be able to rush to the trouble spots across the state.


UN tourism conference in Hyderabad from April 12

The three-day international conference will also coincide with 25th joint meeting of the UNWTO Commission for East Asia, Pacific and South Asia.

Union Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi told a news conference here that the conference would deliberate on the future plans of UNWTO Commission. About 200 delegates from 29 countries are expected to attend the conference, which will discuss and share the best policies and practices around the world.

Fasting TDP leaders forced into hospitalHyderabad, March 30 - In a midnight crackdown, Hyderabad police forcibly shifted fasting leaders of the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to a state-run hospital after their condition deteriorated.

Policemen lifted 29 TDP legislators into waiting vehicles and shifted them to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), where they were forcibly given medical aid.

A police team arrived at the Old MLA Quarters shortly after midnight and shifted the fasting leaders. Police arrested some TDP activists who tried to resist attempts to evict the leaders.

OMC case: Suspended IAS officer Srilakshmi surrenders in court

Y-SrilakshmiHyderabad, March 21 : Suspended IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi, an accused in the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) scam involving former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhana Reddy, surrendered Thursday before a special CBI court here following the expiry of her interim bail.

Srilaksmhi, who was granted interim bail in October last year, was wheeled into the court room. She gave herself up following March 18 orders of the court. She was later shifted to the Chanchalguda Central Prison.
