India ranks second amongst top e-waste generators

India ranks second amongst top e-waste generatorsAccording to a report from Delhi's radiation exposure that hints that India is the second largest e-waste generator in Asia.

The startling facts states the radioactive material called "Gammacel" was decommissioned in 1985. The recent reports suggest that this material was recently auctioned in February 2010 to some scrap dealers.

The rules which were decommissioned, according to the DU illustrate that the Atomic Regulatory Board who left the machine to be shifted to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai never occurred, instead it the lack of decommissioning caused a havoc resulting in utter wastage.

In addition to the above no guidelines have been set to handle harmful materials; neither has been a recruitment of trained and experienced radiation safety officer in the premises of the site.

An alarming 16 more such cases have been recorded across the country since 2000 making India the second largest e-waste contributor.
