To create awareness regarding the benefits of early detection of cancer, PM’s wife Gursharan Kaur, US Ambassador David C Mulford and his wife and CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat together with many others participated in a walk in New Delhi on Sunday.

While flagging off the “Walk for Life” organised by CanSupport, an NGO providing palliative care to cancer patients, Mrs. Singh said, “Cancer detected in early stages can be cured and cancer patients need the emotional support of their friend and family in the fight against it.”

Washington, Feb 16: Deaf children are able to develop their own sign language for communicating with others as they grow, just as children with conventional spoken language, according to a new study.

The researchers have found that deaf children invent their own way of communication with help of hand signs and homemade language-like gesture system.

"Other studies on this ''homesigning'' have usually stopped at the point the children go to school, but I have been able to follow children in Nicaragua who are not near a special education school and accordingly continue developing their homesigns independently," said Marie Coppola, a Research Associate at the University of Chicago.

London, February 16: Schoolboy Alfie Patten, 13, who is believed to have fathered a child at this tender age with his girlfriend Chantelle Steadman, 15, have found the support of a priest who says that it would be wrong to "point the finger at anyone".

Father Seamus Hester said that Alfie and his 15-year-old girlfriend Chantelle Steadman should be supported, rather than blamed, after becoming parents to baby girl Maisie.

The priest presides over St Gregory''s Roman Catholic Church, close to Chantelle''s home in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

London, Feb 16: Mahatma Gandhi's great grandson, Tushar Gandhi, has denounced a planned auction of his belongings as immoral, and joined Indian parliamentarians in demanding their return.

Gandhi's sandals, pocket watch and spectacles will be sold to the highest bidder at a New York auction house next month, The Telegraph reported.

Tushar Gandhi, who runs the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation in Mumbai, said he has already had offers from people around the world to donate a month's salary for the cause.
