PM’s Wife Undertakes Walk To Create Awareness About Cancer
To create awareness regarding the benefits of early detection of cancer, PM’s wife Gursharan Kaur, US Ambassador David C Mulford and his wife and CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat together with many others participated in a walk in New Delhi on Sunday.
While flagging off the “Walk for Life” organised by CanSupport, an NGO providing palliative care to cancer patients, Mrs. Singh said, “Cancer detected in early stages can be cured and cancer patients need the emotional support of their friend and family in the fight against it.”
Mrs. Gursharan Kaur also said that she will do all to increase awareness about the ever-present and increasing risk of cancer in the country and the need to confront the challenge.
She also said that her involvement in the event was an approach to inform people that in addition to medical treatment, cancer patients need social, financial and emotional support to win over the disease.
“This walk is a great way to reach out to people, and tell them that early detection can make all the difference in a cancer patient’s life,” she added.
While lecturing on the occasion, Mulford stated, “It is important to create awareness about cancer and its detection in early stages helps in its cure.”
Mulford, whose wife J Mulford was also diagnosed with breast cancer, said that the detection of cancer signs at early stage is vital in winning over the disease.
He emphasized on the need for family support to cancer patients and said, “It is important as it helps them to fight it.”
The walk, which was organised along a 3.5 km stretch, starting from the Central Civil Services Sports Ground on Vinay Marg, was attended by many wearing white t-shirts in favor of the 8-million people throughout the world who die because of cancer every year.
