Agnel U-12 footballers excel

The U-12 boys' football team of Fr Agnel's Multipurpose School, Vashi finished among top four teams in the Bodyline Sports Inter-School Football Tournament. Agnel boys played five matches in the tournament and lost the semifinal to Don Bosco High School, Matunga 0-3. Advait Shinde was given the best midfielder's trophy while the boys were also given the fair play award.

Austria ends contract with football coach Brueckner

Austria coach Karel BruecknerVienna  - The tenure of Austria coach Karel Brueckner was cut short Monday, when the Austrian football association (OeFB) announced it had severed its contract with the seasoned Czech trainer after a string of losses.

The 69-year-old coach had taken over the team last July after Austria's unsuccessful showing at the Euro 2008 championships.

Led by Brueckner, Austria managed only one win against France, defeating it 3-1 in a World Cup qualifier, while drawing two matches and losing four others. Brueckner's record since last summer includes a 1-1 draw against the Faroe Islands.

Ukraine insists on four Euro 2012 venues

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko Kiev  - Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko on Monday said his country would contribute all four planned venues for the Euro 2012 competition, despite severe financial problems.

Yushchenko speaking to reporters in Kiev rejected a Polish media suggestion that six of the eight venues for the tournament be in Poland, and that Ukraine's host share be reduced from four to two sites.

"We have all indications that we can guarantee a normal preparation process (for Euro 2012)," Yushchenko said.

Beckham to stay at AC Milan until end of season

David BeckhamRome  - AC Milan are close to obtaining the extension of David Beckham's loan from Los Angeles Galaxy, who will have him back at the end of the Serie A season, Italian media reported Monday.

The 33-year-old English veteran was due back to the US club on March 9 at the end of an 11-week loan.

His perfect fitting into the Devils' schemes, however, convinced Milan to ask Galaxy for an extension of the loan that the California club appear to have accepted.

Rio Ferdinand to have owl deliver wedding ring

Rio-FerdinandLondon, Mar. 3 (ANI): When England and Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand marries fiancée Rebecca Ellison in August, an owl will swoop down to deliver the rings.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Ollie, a barn owl, will carry the rings in a velvet pouch to the best man who will be wearing a falconer's glove for her to perch on during the vows the moment the registrar asks the 30-year-old centre back: "Do you have the rings?"

Shaquille O'Neal scored 33 points against his former team, and the Phoenix Suns withstood a 49-point effort by Kobe Bryant to burn the weary Los Angeles Lakers 118-111 on Sunday.

O'Neal followed up his season-high 45-point performance Friday against Toronto by hitting 13-of-18 field goals en route to his first back-to-back 30-point games since March 2004
