Aurobindo expands licensing and supply agreements with Pfizer

Aurobindo and PfizerWith the going getting tough for pharmaceutical companies in the established markets, they are increasingly on the lookout for greener pastures in the developing countries! Lately, global pharma giant Pfizer Inc has expanded its partnership with Hyderabad-based Aurobindo Pharma Limited.

Under the deal, Aurobindo - the manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) - has executed expansive licensing and supply agreements with Pfizer, pertaining to solid dosage and sterile products for several emerging markets.

Speaking in specific terms, the agreement gives Pfizer the rights to 55 solid oral dose and 5 sterile inject-able products for a number of countries all over Asia and Latin America. These products, by and large, are related to the expansive array of key remedial areas, such as anti-infectives, cardivascular and central nervous system disorders.

Though the financial aspects of the Aurobindo-Pfizer pact remained undisclosed, it is expected that the deal would be of substantial benefit to Pfizer towards increasing its offerings in medicines that no longer have patent protection in markets around the world.

Talking about the agreement in a Thursday press release, Jean-Michel Halfon, President and General Manager of Pfizer’s emerging markets business unit, said: “The expansion of our product portfolio from this deal provides a foundation for us to commercialize branded generics based on patient needs within specific regions.”
