Wipro Q1 Net Rises 31%To Rs 13.19 Bn
Technology giant Wipro Ltd has registered net profit worth Rs 13.19 billion for the three month period ended June 30, 2010.
This showed an increase of 31% year-on-year (YoY) in the company's net profit.
In a declaration, the IT bellwether stated that its total revenue during the quarter first quarter (Q1) increased by 16.6% YoY to Rs 72.36 billion.
Under the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Wipro's net income for the first quarter stood at $284 million and total revenue $1.56 billion.
From its global IT services biz, the company's revenue grew by 16.6%YoY to $1.2 billion under IFRS and Rs 55 billion in rupee terms.
In the period under review, the company hired 4,854 individuals to increase the total staff strength to 1,12,925.
IT services appended 22 new customers during the quarter.
While commenting on the results, Azim Premji, chairman, Wipro said, "We are seeing strong demand environment across our industry verticals despite macro challenges. We added the highest number of billable employees ever, in this quarter. Our gidance reflects this momentum - for the quarter ended September 2010, we expect revenues from our IT services business to be in the range of $1,253 million to $1,277 million, a sequential increase of 4.1 per cent to 6.1 per cent."
For the second quarter ending Sept 30, the NYSE-listed Wipro projects its IT services income to be $1.253 billion-$1.277 billion as against $1.204 billion during the three months through June. (With Inputs from Agencies)
