Toyota To Recall 91,903 Lexus And Crown Vehicles Due To Engine Defect

Toyota To Recall 91,903 Lexus And Crown Vehicles Due To Engine DefectToyota Motor Corp has lodged for a recall of 91,903 units of its luxury Lexus and Crown models with the Transport Ministry owing to an engine defect.

Last week, a company's representative stated that around 180,000 units of those models sold overseas are also likely to be recalled.

Some units could have a trouble with a valve spring in the engine leading to an abnormal sound or making idling unbalanced.

The company said that the engine could stall while the vehicle is moving and in the worst-case scenario, might not restart.

It added that it had received 220 complaints of the problem but no reports of related accidents or injuries.

The affected models include Toyota Crown, Lexus IS350, GS350, GS450h, GS460, LS460, LS600h, LS600hL.

It was the latest in a series of quality troubles for Toyota.

The world's biggest auto manufacturer has recalled over 10 million vehicles all over the world over problems with accelerator pedals, floor mats and brakes that tarnished its status for safety and quality.

Toyota shares surged 0.5% as of 11 a. m. (0200 GMT) Monday. (With Inputs from Agencies)
