New Delhi, Dec 14: A dense fog covered the capital and affected air and rail services on Friday morning.

The fog reduced visibility to 125 meters on the runway at the Capital’s two airports, delaying most in-bound and out-bound flights.

The authorities were forced to initiate the sophisticated CAT 3 B landing system. The normal visibility dropped to about 50 m.

According to airport officials, domestic flights like Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Nagpur, Ahmedabad and Jammu were delayed. Air Deccan also cancelled its Jammu flight.

The dense fog also delayed trains to the capital.

The winter chill revived in most states of North India with heavy snowfall reported in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

At least 14 people have been killed in Uttar Pradesh due to the winter chill.

Heavy snowfall, which has blocked traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, was reopened on Thursday.

Hundreds of vehicles, mostly trucks, on their way from Jammu to Srinagar were stopped by the traffic authorities and were not allowed to proceed towards Srinagar.

The 300-km-long highway is the only road that connects Kashmir Valley to the rest of India.

According to the Met Department, the minimum temperature will fall by two to three degrees over the northwest plains and Rajasthan over the next couple of days. (ANI)
