Terror Attacks Forces England To Cancel The Ongoing ODI matches, Tests Also In Jeopardy
Here’s sad news for cricket fans.
Following the deadly attacks in Mumbai on Wednesday night, England cricket team has decided to call off their ongoing tour in India, leaving the succeeding Test series also in doubt.
Confirming this report with the media persons, BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla said, “The England team management have informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Shashank Manohar that the players are reluctant to play the remaining two matches. The BCCI has asked them to send a proposal in this regard for consideration.”
Shukla maintained that England have not decided whether they will come back next month to play the two Test matches of the series. Both teams were due to stay at the luxury Taj Mahal Hotel, where a major attack took place, for the second Test in Mumbai from December 19.
Out of the seven ODI's, both India and England had played five matches, last being in Cuttack on Wednesady. The sixth match was to be played in Guwahati on Saturday. From the very beginning, the England team was not interested to play in Guwahati, since it was also hit by bomb blasts in October. The last match of the seven match series was to be played in Delhi, Tuesday.
Terrorist killed at least 101 people, including six foreign tourists in the country’s financial capital, Mumbai on Wednesday night.
Apart from targeting city's main business hotels, the Taj Mahal, Trident and Oberoi, the terrorists also targeted the main railway station, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus; the domestic airport; Leopold's, a popular tourist café; a hospital; and other locations.
