Tendulkar’s perfect century, Yuvraj’s fifty sets up historic win

Sachin TendulkarChennai, Dec 15 : Chasing down the fourth-highest total in Test cricket, India couldn't have picked a better moment to create history and as they completed a famous six-wicket here.

Sachin Tendulkar masterminded the historic success with a perfect century. Alongside Yuvraj Singh's 85 they added an unbeaten 163, sapping the England spirit that had carried them into such a dominant position.

India chased 387 runs in the fourth innings to go one up in the series. Scenes of a hysteric crowd cheering dot balls as Yuvraj ensured Tendulkar had time to reach his 41st century dominated the closing stages.

The moment came with perfect symmetry as Tendulkar swept Swann to fine leg to reach the hundred and complete victory. All the previous times India have come up short in run-chases, and bizarre claims that Tendulkar does not contribute when runs are required by the team.

Apart from Tendulkar it was Sehwag's blistering knock, Gambhir's sensibility and Yuvraj's composure that took the game away from England.

Sehwag had set the pace for the "great Indian chase" while Gambhir hung in there after his partner's departure to build a partnership with Sachin.

Yuvraj came in after Laxman's departure and scored when India needed him the most.

Just after the tea break, Yuvraj Singh batted his way to his fourth Test fifty.

He played with maturity and provided the support that Tendulkar needed to take India home. A gritty and determined innings is what can describe Yuvraj's effort in this Test match. (ANI)
