Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi’s younger daughter, Srija (19), ran off with her boyfriend, an engineering graduate, and got married at an Arya Samaj temple in the city on Wednesday morning.

Later on, Srija alleged that her family members had caught her in a room for two months before she managed to run away.

In a declaration, Srija said, “We are both adults and there is nothing that can stop us from marrying.”

The groom, Shirish Bhardwaj, is a Brahmin whereas the girl belongs to the powerful Kapu community.

The episode could not have come at a more ill-timed moment. Chiranjeevi was likely to launch a political party shortly following the 2009 elections.

A Kapu community member said that the mega star is held in high esteem by the society and was mulling over a party to cash on the community’s disillusionment with the Congress and Telugu Desam, the two mainline parties.

After the wedding ceremony was solemnized, the pair went round the city interacting with media persons.

Srija said, “We were in love for the past four years. I am happy to get married.”
