In a significant move, the Samajwadi Party on Sunday announced to field former Miss India, actor-social activist Nafisa Ali as the party’s candidate from the prestigious Lucknow seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The planet was their arena literally. The finalists of Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2009 walked down the ramp with confidence and answered with ease.

The judges- Madhur Bhandarkar, Ajay Devgan, Sushmita Sen, Asin and Deepika Padukone had a tough time choosing the winners.

Ekta Choudhary of Delhi bagged the Miss India Universe title. Pooja Chopra of Mumbai won the Miss India World title while the crown of Miss India Earth was won by Mumbai’s Shriya Kishore.

Power equipment manufacturer BHEL announced that its boiler auxiliaries facility had attained a record high turnover of Rs 2,000 crore during the last fiscal (2008-09).

During the fiscal, the company said that the profit before tax (PBT) stood at Rs 253 crore.

Moreover, its dispatches were up 30% at 1.9 lakh metric tonnes during the period under review.

The facility saw an increase of 26% in its growth rate, while it bagged orders worth Rs 3,700 crore during the fiscal.

A new research has disclosed that eating chocolate can help children improve their mathematical skills plus improve their level of energy.

The study researchers have discovered that large amounts of flavanols, which are compounds, found in chocolate, and part of a chemicals group called polyphenols, increase blood flow to the brain.

Prof David Kennedy of Northumbria University, who lead the study, stated that the study results suggest that pupils who depend on chocolate while preparing for examination might have an actual advantage from doing so.

According to a study released on Thursday, Spanish researchers from the Complutense University in Madrid, together with scientists of other universities, found that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) - the main chemical in the infamous narcotic agent, marijuana - likely helps the annihilation of brain cancer cells.

The research, which proposes to bring to improve the prospects of anti-cancer therapies, said that THC causes cancer cells to go through a process called autophagy - the breakdown that takes place when the cells fundamentally self-digest.

TATA Motors has asked for 10 months time from the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation to remove equipment from the mother plant situated in Singur.

WBIDC Managing Director, Subrata Gupta, said, "Tata Motors had written to WBIDC in November that it would require 10 months to remove the equipment from Singur."

The ambitious project of Ratan Tata was earlier planned at Singur but later shifted to Sanand in Gujarat due to stiff opposition by Trinamool Congress led opposition parties over land and compensation issue.
