New Delhi, Mar 28 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Saturday said that plenty of liquidity and low inflation gave room for further interest rate cuts.
Speaking to top Indian businessmen, Singh also said there were encouraging signs in some sectors of the economy.
"With ample liquidity and low inflation, there is scope perhaps for a further moderation in interest rates," Singh said.
The meeting assumes significance as it comes ahead of G-20 summit in London next month.
New Delhi, Mar. 28 : Congress party has announced the list of 16 candidates for Lok Sabha elections in Orissa.
Former Orissa Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang will contest from Koraput (ST), while Union Minister Chandra Shekhar Sahu has been given ticket for Berhampur Constituency.
Former Union Minister Srikant Jena will contest from Balasore, while Ramchandra Rath is being fielded from Aska.
Bhakta Charan Das is another former Union Minister who will try his luck from Kalahandi.
New Delhi, Mar 28 : Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia has acknowledged the need for another stimulus package for reviving the economy in next fiscal.
Talking to the reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi today to mark the release of a report on Competition and Regulation in India, Ahluwalia revealed that this could be considered in the budget after the General Elections.
New Delhi, Mar 28 : Army chief General Deepak Kapoor will undertake an official visit to France from March 31 to April 3.
During his visit, the Army chief will interact with senior military and civilian defence hierarchy and discuss various contemporary defence related issues.
He will also visit important training institutions and operational headquarters.
France and India share common values and have convergence of views on many issues that affect the emerging world order.
New Delhi, Mar 28 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday submitted its final investigation report on the former Union Minister Jagdish Tytler''s involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
The CBI has filed the report in a sealed envelope before Metropolitan Magistrate Ram Lal Meena. The court would consider the report on April 2.
New Delhi, Mar 28 : Former President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam will launch the inaugural issue of a monthly magazine titled "India Matters" in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday.
The visit is being held on the invitation of UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan.
To be published from April 2009, the magazine will bring the latest developments in India, as well as events relating to the Indian community in the UAE.
