Delhi Public Library opens first computerised sub-branchNew Delhi, April 9 : Delhi Public Library has opened a fully computerised sub-branch library at Vinobha Puri near Lajpat Nagar II in the capital, which offers computerised library services, free lending services and a modernised children section.

Besides, new facilities like free Internet and DVD/CD lending services will also be introduced very soon for the DPL members here.

Indian court puts off verdict on politician in anti-Sikh riot caseNew Delhi -  An Indian court Thursday postponed until April 28 its verdict on the alleged involvement of a Congress Party politician in anti-Sikh riots of 1984 amid protests by the Sikh community.

Congress Party leader Jagdish Tytler is accused of inciting mobs to attack Sikhs in Delhi after the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.

At least 2,000 Sikhs were killed in the Indian capital during the riots.

Prasad and Rabri Devi made remarks against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar respectively.

Rabri Devi has been given time till April 11 to reply to the notice.

The intended purpose of the rally was to make the visually impaired feel included.

During the rally, each visually impaired participant or navigator was paired with a driver. Each navigator was given a map with clear instructions on time, distance, and landmarks in braille.

Petroleum ministry launches new exploration licensing policy

Petroleum ministry launches new exploration licensing policyNew Delhi, Apr 9 : Petroleum Secretary R. S. Pandey on Thursday launched the eighth round of the New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP), and said the offer would remain open for four months till August 10, 2009.

The Ministry has also thrown open 70 new blocks for bids to the Indian and foreign companies for exploration of oil and natural gas.

"Out of 70 blocks, 24 are in deep water, 24 in shallow water and 18 on land. 10 blocks under Coal Bed Methane were also opened for bidding," Pandey told reporters here.
