The Bombay High Court has rejected the writ petition filed by the telecom giant Vodafone, regarding the capital gains tax, against income tax department. The company has challenged the show cause notice by the IT department, for about $1.7 billion capital gain tax in the High Court.  

The division bench of Justices S Radhakrishnan and Anand Nirgude has also extended the stay on the show cause notice and given a time of eight weeks to Vodafone to file appeal in the apex court. The company may approach the Supreme Court against the income tax department in the next week.

ZTE, the worldwide provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has strengthened its focus on the research and development (R&D) to introduce cheap products in the global market without compromising on the quality.

ZTE, which has 16 R&D centers in China, spends around 10 percent of its income on R&D activities.

Moreover, the company also has 7 R&D centers in other countries comprising India and Pakistan.

About 40% of its work force comprise of personnel from the R&D department.

ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, added another major client win to its growing list of service providers deploying its GSM solution.

The company today announced the signing of a US$100 million deal with China Mobile's Pakistan arm (CMPak) to help them swell the capacity of their GSM infrastructure as part of its Phase 2 project.

The Telecom Regulatory

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of Indian is in favor of market-based determination of prices of 2G licenses. The statement from the regulatory body came after the criticism of the union minister for Communication and IT, Mr A. Raja, on the issue of allotting spectrum without auction.

The chairman of TRAI, Nripendra Mishra said that the license should be allotted on the basis of the prevailing market prices. There is a need to develop a mechanism to capture the market prices for the license, for the maximum earning of state exchequer and bring more transparency in the system. He disclosed that the government had not asked for its views on spectrum allocation.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has announced the launch of BlackBerry services by next month. BSNL Director (Finance) S D Saxena, speaking on the sidelines of a CII conference said, "We are well on track to launch our BlackBerry services by next month."
