The party promised a non- BJP and non-Congress alternative at the Centre to carry forward the "glorious" tradition of anti-imperialism and secular polity.

CPI national executive meet begins todayThiruvananthapuram, Dec 6 : A three-day national executive meeting of the Communist Party of India will begin here from today to take stock of the current situation in the wake of the Mumbai terror strikes.

Besides taking stock of the situation, the party will also hold talks on the role of the Left and secular forces in the coming parliament elections to take on the Congress and BJP.

Issues like the global recession and its fallout on the country, and retrenchment will also be considered during the meeting.

Participants at ''all-party meeting'' decided to mobilize people to mount pressure on the Central government to intervene in the ongoing conflict in Sri Lanka and to stop the war.

Condoleezza Rice, India, United States, CPINew Delhi, Oct. 4 : Left activists staged a''Black Day'' demonstration here on Saturday in protest against the UPA Government''s decision to move ahead with the US-India nuclear deal.

Led by senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury and CPI leader D Raja, the activists marched towards the Hyderabad House here where External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice were holding discussions but were prevented from reaching the venue.
