Pak called a wild card in US intelligence report

Washington, Nov 22: The National Intelligence Council, an independent US Government body, has called Pakistan a ‘wild card’, whose northwestern territories will remain “poorly governed”, as cross-border activities continue to cause instability in nearby areas of Afghanistan.

The Global Trends reports, produced every four years by the National Intelligence Council, represents all 16 American intelligence agencies, in part to inform long-term thinking by new administrations.

The reports project various possible sequences of events in the future; the new publication notes, between dire forecasts, that “bad outcomes are not inevitable.”

Lashkar-e-Jhangavi can carry out terror strikes in Karachi

Interior Ministry advisor Rehman MalikKarachi, Nov 22: Pakistan’s Interior Ministry advisor Rehman Malik has said that the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangavi (LJ) may strike in Karachi.

He further said that to deter strikes from the terror outfit “we need to discourage them and increase the vigil.”

Malik said this at a law and order review meeting in Karachi, which was presided over by President Asif Ali Zardari at the Governor’s House here.

Malik said there were 17,000 seminaries in the country and 3,000 of them were in Karachi alone.

UN concerned over US cross border attacks inside Pakistan

United Nations Secretary General Ban ki-MoonUnited Nations, Nov 22: United Nations Secretary General Ban ki-Moon has voiced his concern over the United States’ cross-border attacks on suspected Taliban targets inside Pakistani territory.

Six people were killed in a suspected US drone strike in Bannu district on Tuesday night.

Al Qaeda terrorist Abdullah Azam Al-Saudi was believed killed in the US missile attack, the first outside the Tribal Areas of Pakistan, the Daily Times reported.

External Affairs Ministry worried over Indian cricket team touring Pakistan

BCCI & PCBNew Delhi, Nov 21 : The External Affairs Ministry on Friday expressed reservations over Indian cricket team touring Pakistan.

The series to be played from January 5 to February 19 includes three Tests, five One-day Internationals and one Twenty20 International but is in doubt because the Indian government is yet to clear the tour.

The Ministry fears that any untoward eventuality during the tour can decimate all the efforts made in building up the Indo-Pak relations.

Former Special Services Group head could have been killed as Taliban'' revenge

PakistanIslamabad, Nov. 21 : General (retired) Ameer Faisal Alvi, a former head of the military Special Services Group (SSG), who had died in an attack in Islamabad, could have been killed for revenge by Taliban following his involvement in operations against militants in the tribal areas.

Pakistan army flexes muscles to shoot down drone aircraft

Pakistan FlagIslamabad - Pakistan's army on Friday carried out a training exercise in which pilotless aircraft drones were shot down by anti-craft guns and short range surface-to-air missiles, a military statement said.

The exercise was carried out as public pressure on the government in Islamabad is increasing to use force to halt air raids by US drones that target suspected militant hideouts in Pakistan's tribal region.

"The elements of army air defence demonstrated their shooting skills by targeting the drones flying at different altitudes," said the statement.
