Karachi, Nov 22: Pakistan’s Interior Ministry advisor Rehman Malik has said that the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangavi (LJ) may strike in Karachi.

He further said that to deter strikes from the terror outfit “we need to discourage them and increase the vigil.”

Malik said this at a law and order review meeting in Karachi, which was presided over by President Asif Ali Zardari at the Governor’s House here.

Malik said there were 17,000 seminaries in the country and 3,000 of them were in Karachi alone.

The Daily Times quoted Malik as saying that the government would regularise them in consultation with religious scholars of all schools of thought.

He said al Qaeda was using the LJ, Sipah-e-Sahaba and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan for carrying out its activities.

Zardari said people came to Karachi in search of jobs and safety.

“We need to accommodate them, but simultaneously we also need to keep a watch on them, because criminals and terrorists can also make their way into Karachi along with migrants from the disturbed northern areas,” he said.

Zardari asked the meeting to collect information regarding the seminaries, compile lists of students and create a database. He directed that all resources should be used for this purpose.

He also ordered that everyone coming to the city should register with a police station. (ANI)
