Banned Pak player’s father-in-law appointed as chairman of junior selection committeeLahore, Nov 22: The father-in-law of banned Pakistani opener Imran Farhat, Muhammad Ilyas, has been appointed by the PCB as chairman of the national junior selection committee.

Illyas, a former opener, has played 10 official and unofficial Tests, with a combined average of 43.2 for Pakistan.

Farhat is currently playing with his brother Humayun in the ICL.

Agenda of democracy in Pak still in an unfinished state: Aitzaz

Former Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association president Aitzaz AhsanWashington, Nov 22 : Former Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association president Aitzaz Ahsan has said that while a new era of hope is dawning in the United States, in Pakistan the agenda of democracy lies in an unfinished state.

In a keynote speech to the Middle East Institute’s annual conference here on Friday, Ahsan said there could be no democracy without an independent judiciary.

US drones seen flying over Pak tribal areas of Bannu, Waziristan

Lahore, Nov 22 : Suspected US drones have reportedly violated Pakistani airspace again, as they were seen flying over various areas of North and South Waziristan agencies, a private TV channel claimed.

According to the channel, the US spy planes made low flights over Razmak, Makain and Ladha areas of the two tribal agencies.

However, they returned to Afghanistan after tribesmen fired at them.

US drones also made flights over Bannu Frontier Region, creating panic among the locals, the Daily Times reported.

Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary General Ban ki-Moon has voiced his concern over the United States’ cross-border attacks on suspected Taliban targets inside Pakistani territory.

Suspected US drone strike kills four in Pakistan Islamabad  - A suspected US pilotless aircraft on Saturday targeted a militant hideout in Pakistan's restive tribal region along the border with Afghanistan, killing four people and injuring six, a Pakistani intelligence official said.

Two hellfire missiles demolished the house of local Taliban leader Khaliq Noor in Ali Khel village outside Mir Ali, the main town in the tribal district of North Waziristan, a known sanctuary of Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters.

Pak Govt considering abolition of death sentence

Pak Govt considering abolition of death sentenceIslamabad, Nov 22: The Pakistan Government is considering a proposal to abolish the death penalty in the country, bringing a ray of hope for death row Indian prisoner, Sarabjit Singh.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik informed the National Assembly in a written statement that the federal Law Ministry is processing the proposal.

Malik also told the House that 660 Pakistanis aere currently imprisoned in Indian jails, while 503 Indians were being held in Pakistani jails.

Al Qaeda can take over Pakistan’s Punjab province: SAFMA

Lahore, Nov 22: The South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) has said that al Qaeda can take over Pakistan’s Punjab province at any time, as it has appointed Ameers (presidents) and Naib Amirs (vice presidents) in all 34 districts of the state.

Punjab Police have been providing protocol to ‘jihadis’, said SAFMA General Secretary Imtiaz Alam while addressing a condolence conference in memory of poet and former professor of Punjabi Ali Arshad Mir.

He said the right and left wings in Pakistan had unfortunately united and were jointly terming the United Sates an enemy of Pakistan, adding that this ideology was further being fuelled and propagated by the ‘mujahideen’ in the media.
