Tata Steel Sales Up 26% In Jan ‘09
The world’s pioneering steel company Tata Steel has announced a growth of 26 per cent in its sales for the last month (January 2009).
During the month, the company’s sales stood at 511,000 tons, as against 404,000 tons in the corresponding period of the last year.
With an increase of 35%, the company’s saleable steel in January 2009 recorded the highest production at 548,000 tons as compared to the prior year period,
In the meantime, production of hot metal zoomed 32% at 574,000 tons and that of crude steel grew 25% to 525,000 tons, over the prior year period.
During the month (Jan 2009), Tata Steel won the coveted ET Company of the Year Award. During the month, initial civil construction work also started at the company’s 6 mtpa integrated Greenfield steel project at Kalinganagar, Orissa.
Shares of the company, on Friday (Feb 6), gained Rs 4.15 (2.28%) to end at Rs 186.15 at the Bombay Steel Exchange (BSE). The total volume of shares traded was 1,563,512. Current EPS & P/E ratio stood at 67.73 and 2.73 respectively. The share price has seen a 52-week high of Rs 925 and a low of Rs 146.35 on BSE.
