Tata’s Jaguar and Land Rover unit records strong growthTata Motors ' Jaguar and Land Rover unit has recorded strong growth during April-March 2012 period even as the company's domestic Indian business faced difficult year in the country.

The sales of Jaguar and Land Rover models increased significantly specially after the launch of Range Rover Evoque crossover. The global sales of the entire group increased 26 per cent year-on-year to 1,39,655 units in March.

The sales of global commercial vehicle increased 12 per cent and passenger vehicle sales surged 41 per cent in March. The company's global sales were up 16% to 12,52,173 units during the month. Meanwhile, the sales of Jaguar and Land Rover models rose by an impressive 51 per cent to 36,471 units worldwide.

The sales of Jaguar models rose 42 per cent and that for Land Rover was up 53 per cent in March. The overall JLR sales for the entire previous fiscal rose 29 per cent to 3,14,433 units last fiscal. The company had acquired the premium brands from Ford Motor in 2008. The iconic brands have now become the biggest contributors to the company's earnings.

The Jaguar Land Rover unit of the company generated 57 percent of Tata Motors' revenue for the year ended March 2011 compared to 53 percent in the previous year.
