Tata, Mittal, Nooyi Among World’s 25 Biz Heads

Indra NooyiNew York: Fortune, a global business magazine, has named Rattan Tata, India’s top business leader, as one of the top 25 most influential business leaders together with steel magnate L N Mittal and Pepsi Co's Indra Nooyi

The ranking made by ‘Fortune’ has closely followed a list by another global business publication Forbes, which was released earlier this month.

Forbes has named Mr. Mittal as India’s richest person and placed him on the first position, while Ambani brothers were placed on second and third positions respectively. Forbes does not mention Ratan Tata’s name in the list.

However, the ‘Fortune list,’ released on Tuesday has named Mr. Tata as the world’s 23rd most powerful businessperson, ahead of CEOs of international media and entertainment giant Walt-Disney and French luxury goods major LVMH.

Indra Nooyi, PepsiCo’s chief, who topped a separate Fortune listing of world’s most powerful business women for second year in a row last month, has been placed 22nd in the newest list, which is topped by Steve Jobs, Apple Computer’s CEO.

Mr. Mittal is ranked 14th in the list. Mittal’s name figures prior to CEOs of international giants including JPMorgan Chase, Hewlett-Packard, Boeing, BHP Billiton, Blackstone and Mexican business tycoon Carlos Slim.

Apple's Jobs is accompanied by media baron Rupert Murdoch (2nd), Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein (3rd), Google's founder-CEO trio Eric Schmidt, Larry Page and Sergei Brin (4th) and legendary investor and Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett (5th).

The magazine said, “Some are empire builders. Others are hired guns. But if they truly have world-class oomph, they're on Fortune's subjective - yet really quite accurate - list of the most powerful businesspeople in the world.”
