Suzuki Jimny (Gypsy) has crossed 40 years

Suzuki Jimny (Gypsy) has crossed 40 yearsThough, it was earlier launched as a compact 4×4 and was called Jimny Sierra, but the popular Gypsy from the Suzuki Motor Corporation stable has recently crossed 40 years. While the company spent two years in developing the product with a 360cc engine, no wonder why it was perhaps the most affordable 4×4 vehicle of that time.

After the product was launched in 1970 and the air-cooled engine developed just 24hp and 36Nm giving a lot less to the off-roaders keeping in mind the demand in today’s time.

The Gypsy has been a successful product for Suzuki in almost all the countries where it has made its presence felt.

Suzuki Australia General Manager, Tony Devers said that the product takes pride in completing its 40 years and it is still standing tall as the original compact SUV with substance rather than semantics.

However, as far as the Indian market goes, the Gypsy has been a very popular model from the Maruti Suzuki stable, though the company currently just supplies it to the Army and hence keeps its production limited in the Indian market.
