Berlin - Berlin's memorial to gays and lesbians persecuted during the Nazi era has been vandalized less than three months after it was inaugurated, police in the German capital said Saturday.

The vandals broke a viewing window and pushed over a fence, in the first time the memorial has been damaged. The damage was seen by a passer-by on Saturday.

The simple grey rectangular stone across the street from Germany's national memorial to Jewish victims of the Holocaust was inaugurated on May 27 after years of controversy.

San Sebastian, Spain- The militant Basque separatist group ETA
has claimed responsibility for a series of terrorist attacks in recent
months, a newspaper reported Saturday.

In a communique sent to the Basque newspaper Gara, ETA said it had
carried out bomb attacks on several tourist facilities, a newspaper
office and three construction companies involved in building a high-
speed rail line through Basque country.

No-one was injured in the attacks.

Beijing, Aug. 16 : The Chinese Government''s effort to fight terrorism would not affect relations among various ethnic groups in China, said Mao Gongning, director of the Policy and Law Department with the State Ethnic Affairs Commission.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, he said: "To crack down on those terrorist activities in accordance with laws is conducive to uniting the Chinese people and safeguarding national unification."

New Delhi  - Indian police arrested eight members of a banned Islamic group in connection with bombings in the western city of Ahmedabad that killed 56 people and injured more than 150 in July, news reports said Saturday.

The activists of the Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) were arrested in southern Kerala and Karnataka and western Gujarat and Maharashtra states, NDTV news channel reported quoting a police official in Ahmedabad.

Washington, Aug. 16 :Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is behind the unrest in Kashmir.

In an interview to ANI TV, Frederic Grare said that there seemed to be some truth to the Indian Government’s view that the ISI is fermenting trouble in Kashmir.

“It (New Delhi’s view) is not suggested, it is clearly said that the ISI is fermenting trouble in Kashmir. They have been fermenting trouble in Kashmir for years. Again you have a situation where part of it is outside, particularly from Pakistan, and the other side has been doing so for decades, not just the past few weeks,” Grare said.
