Renewed demand for Gorkhaland

Darjeeling, Oct 18 : The members of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) activists have renewed their agitation for a separate statehood and are replacing government signboards with their own signboards in Darjeeling.

The activists are pasting ''Government of Gorkhaland'' on all boards that are reading ''Government of West Bengal''.

Further, they have passed a resolution making ''Gorkhaland'' number plates mandatory for all vehicles.

"We have decided that all the number plates on the cars will be replaced by our number plates. We will also paste our name on the government boards," said Bimal Dorzi, executive member of the Central committee of GJM.

She met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday to demand action against the West Bengal government under Article 355 for its failure to stand by the agreement, in the Singur case, which stipulates that 400 acres acquired be portioned out and returned to farmers.

Another Car Manufacturer Waiting To Enter Singur: WBThe West Bengal government would provide all assistance to entrepreneurs who want to invest in the state. This is assured by the transport minister of West Bengal, Subhas Chakraborty. 

The minister said that one more car manufacturer is in touch with the government for setting up a car manufacture plant in the state. However, he declined to disclose the name of the investor group. The government would sign a MoU for this project within a month.

With this move, Metro Cash & Carry, will be able to open its first outlet in Kolkata in 6-8 weeks.
