Warsaw - President Lech Kaczynski was slated to meet with heads of three Baltic states to work out a common stance on Georgia for an upcoming European Union summit, his chancellery told Radio ZET on Thursday.
"There's an expectation from the Baltic states that the president in Brussels will present a common stance of the three states - the three Baltic states and Poland," said Piotr Kownacki, vice-chief of the president's chancellery.
Kaczynski will meet with his counterparts from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia either on Thursday or Monday. He could fly Thursday to Vilnius or another Baltic capital, Kownacki said, or meet the heads of state in Brussels on Monday before the summit.
Warsaw- Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski has said he'd prefer Russia to work with the West, but Russia would lose again if it came to confrontation.
Warsaw - Poland on Tuesday called for respect for Georgia's territorial integrity after Russia recognized the former Soviet satellites two breakaway territories, fueling a recent conflict in the region.
Poland still awaits international dialog on the two regions and solutions that will guarantee "lasting security," said a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Any steps taken outside that plan are met with "deep disapproval and concern" from the international community, the Ministry said.
Warsaw - Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the US anti- missile shield is not only a military installation, but a chance to develop a northern Polish province that is to host the base.
Tusk said residents near the city of Slupsk should feel the shield is also "a chance to develop the region," after he met with local government officials from the area.
