Lucknow reel under floodsLucknow, Aug 23 (ANI): People in Lucknow district of Uttar Pradesh are reeling under the fury of floods caused by the monsoon downpour.

Relentless rain has submerged almost all the low-lying areas of Lucknow.

The Gomti river, which bifurcates the city, is on a spate and water and has crossed the danger mark.

The residents of the area say that they have not witnessed such a huge amount of rainfall before. They are complaining that the authorities are not paying adequate attention to their plight.

Monsoon rains spread havoc in Uttar Pradesh

Heavy Rain in UPMathura (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 23: Low lying areas, streets and fields in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura District were inundated due to continuous heavy rain.

Floods have submerged hundreds of villages and authorities said that over 650 villages were cut- off in the state as rivers broke through embankments, affecting the lives of nearly 1.5 million people.

Most rivers were flowing over the danger level. Villagers complained that not only people, even the animals are suffering. With the farms submerged, there is no fodder for the animals.

Floods continue to hit normal life in Faizabad

Faizabad, Aug 22: Life in Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh remains affected due to unabated floods caused by monsoon rains.

Many rivers of the region are flowing above the danger mark, creating a near exodus situation as people are forced to take shelter in the higher reaches.

"River is in spate. All the nearby areas are flooded. We are facing a lot of problems," said Keshav Ram, a flood victim.

The authorities have provided relief material to hundreds of families.

"Each of the families have been given 10 kilograms of rice, 12 kilograms of animal fodder and two liters of Kerosene oil. We have provided relief material for a total of 239 families," said Suresh Kumar, a land ceiling official.

27 perish in monsoon rains in northern India

22 killed as rain lashes northern India, flood toll tops 1,400 New Delhi  - Heavy rains across India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh have claimed at least 27 lives bringing the death toll in rain-related incidents in the region to over 600, officials said Thursday.

Most of the deaths were caused by houses collapsing and flooding in six districts in the state.

Rahul Gandhi to visit Amethi today

During his visit, Rahul is scheduled to review the progress of various developmental schemes launched by him in the past.

He will also attend a meeting of the district vigilance and monitoring committee in Sultanpur, and interact with people in villages.

An Indian prisoner reaches home after spending 20 years in Pakistan jail

Rasoolpur (Uttar Pradesh), August 20 : Vishwanath, an Indian prisoner who is mentally-disabled reached his native village Rasoolpur in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh today after spending 20 years in Pakistan Jail.

Police handed over Vishwanath to his family on Monday evening.

It is believed that Vishwanath has become mentally unstable; allegedly due to torture and atrocities he faced in the prison, where he was lodged in Pakistan.

"They beat me up on one day and locked me for another five days. They give me one square meal a day," said Vishwanath.

Vishwanath''s father says he looked for his missing son at various places but couldn''t find him.
