Dalai LamaChennai, Jan 20 : Tibetan exiles in Chennai accord a warm welcome today to their revered spiritual leader the Dalai Lama who is visiting the city to deliver discourse on peace and spirituality.

There was a riot of colours outside the airport as young men and women carrying Tibetan flags and dressed in traditional attire waited eagerly to welcome their spiritual leader.

Speaking to the media outside the airport, the Dalai Lama said, he had come to Chennai on a cultural and spiritual mission.

"The basic purpose of this visit is culture, spirituality, not politics," he added.

Tibetans hold signature campaign on Human Rights Day in Dharamsala

TibetDharamsala, Dec 10 : Tibetans living-in-exile in Dharamsala today held a signature campaign to mark the International Human Rights Day.

The NGOs including the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC) and Regional Tibetan Women Association (RTWA) held the signature campaign, to draw the attention of United Nation Organisation (UNO) towards their plight.

Sonam, the president of RTYC said that through the signature campaign, they wanted to remind the United Nation about their plight.

Tibetans celebrate 19th anniversary of Dalai Lama''s peace prize

Dalai LamaDharamsala, Dec 10 : Tibetans living-in-exile in Dharamsala today celebrated 19th anniversary of the Dalai Lama receiving the Nobel peace prize in 1989.

Hundreds of Tibetan monks, nuns and students including some foreigners assembled in the main Buddhist premises at McLeodganj to celebrate the occasion.

Prime Minister of Tibetan government-in-exile Samdong Rimpoche also attended the celebrations.

Thubten Samphel, spokesperson of Tibetan government-in-exile said that conferment of the Nobel peace prize on Dalai Lama showed the international support for the cause of Tibetan freedom.
