Pak police claims kidnappers of Iranian, Afghan envoy arrested

Pakistan Police LogoPeshawar, Dec 24 : Inspector General of the North West Frontier Province, Malik Naveed Khan, today said that the masterminds behind kidnapping of Iranian and Afghan diplomats have been arrested.

Talking to media in Naushera, Khan said those involved in the kidnapping of Iranian Commercial Attaché Heshmatollah Atharzadeh and Afghan envoy to Pakistan Abdul Khaliq Farahi have been arrested.

However, they are confined in the areas where police could not reach, The News reported.

He said efforts are underway for the release of abducted diplomats.

PML-Q senator demands review of ‘war on terror’ policy by UN

Peshawar, Dec. 20: Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) Senator Muhammad Ali Durrani has demanded review of the US led `war on terror policy'.

He has asked the United Nations (UN) and the United States (US) to review the `war on terror' policy, as it has fuelled terrorism in the region instead of eliminating it.

"The changing scenario demands a new policy for the region in consultation with Pakistan, Russia, China and Iran," The News quoted Durrani as saying.

Frontier Houses renamed as Pakhtunkhwa Houses

Pakistan FlagPeshawar, Dec. 16 : The North West Frontier Province (NWFP) Government on Tuesday decided to rename all Frontier Houses owned by provincial government as Pakhtunkhwa Houses.

A Geo News report said that a notification in this regard has been issued.

Last month, a furor was witnessed in the National Assembly (NA) over calling the NWFP Pakhtunkhwa, even as provincial ruling party --the Awami National Party (ANP) expressed the hope that the province would be renamed without objection and through a consensus.

The truck drivers fear their lives are at stake.

Two drivers belonging to Punjab's Mianwali District were shot dead by the militants during an attack on NATO supply terminals on December 7. The drivers were dragged out of the trucks and shot dead.

Pak Taliban claims responsibility for attacks on NATO supplies

Peshawar, Dec. 15: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Maulvi Omar on Sunday claimed responsibility for the recent attacks on NATO supplies.

Talking over telephone with reporters, the Daily Times quoted Omar as saying that the arson attacks on NATO supplies in Peshawar and Khyber Agency were a reaction to the United States drone attacks in the Tribal Areas.

He warned of more such attacks if the US troops did not halt their attacks on the Tribal Areas.

He said the TTP would cut the supply routes to NATO and international forces stationed in Afghanistan.
