Pak Frontier Constabulary avoiding postings at NATO terminals

NATO LogoPeshawar, Dec. 13 : Personnel of Pakistan's Frontier Constabulary have expressed reluctance to postings at terminals in Peshawar that contain trucks/lorries with supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan.

"FC didn't possess enough personnel that could enable it to post its men for the security of terminals," the Deputy Commandant of the Frontier Constabulary, Rahmat Khan was quoted by The News, as saying.

"The FC's main responsibility is to safeguard the borders of the tribal and administered areas, and with its existing strength, FC personnel cannot be posted for the security of the terminals," he added.

Taliban attack Peshawar terminal storing NATO suppliesPeshawar, Dec. 13 : Another terminal storing supplies for NATO forces in Afghanistan has been attacked by the Taliban with the help of rocket launchers.

Police officials told the Daily Times that there were no casualties or damage in the attack, but the NNI news agency said on Friday that a ''dozen or more'' containers were destroyed after 10 rockets were fired at the terminal on Ring Road.

NNI said police had arrested five suspects and more arrests were likely.

Pak arrests 167 Jamaat-ud Dawa operatives, seals over 50 offices

Islamabad/Lahore/Karachi/Peshawar, Dec. 13: Pakistan police have reportedly arrested 167 Jamaat-ud-Dawa operatives and closed down over 50 of its offices across the country in a continued crackdown against the banned group.

The Daily Times quoted official sources in Islamabad as saying that three offices of the Jamaat-ud-Daawa in the national capital were sealed on Friday.

Islamabad''s Chief Commissioner Kamran Lashari said no arrests were made initially, but later in a raid on a fourth office, six operatives were arrested.

Key Taliban commander arrested in Peshawar

Pakistan MapPeshawar, Dec 12 : A key Taliban commander Mustafa Kamal Kamran Hijrat, has been reportedly arrested in Peshawar.

Hijrat has been accused of masterminding attacks on cargo terminals harbouring NATO supplies. He allegedly carried out two attacks on three cargo terminals, the Daily Times reports.

According to sources, he is also responsible for hijacking two US military Humvees and 13 truckloads of wheat that were on their way to Afghanistan.

Peshawar Police have not confirmed his arrest.

In an interview with world media watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) in France where he was granted political asylum, Mengal, recalling his 22-month-long incarceration, said that he had a meeting with Musharraf on the evening of October 26, 2006.
