Peshawar, Apr 28 : The exact whereabouts of Tehrik-i-Nifaz-i-Shariat Muhammadi chief Sufi Muhammad, who negotiated the Swat deal with NWFP Government, is not known and is reportedly missing since April 25.

The government as well as followers of his defunct TNSM are looking for him for one reason: To start talks to remove the last few remaining hurdles in the enforcement of Nizam-i-Adl Regulation in Swat.

Sufi Mohammad was last seen leaving for his home in Lal Qila area from his base camp in Maidan on Saturday afternoon, The Dawn reported.

Peshawar, Apr 27: Pakistani security forces have killed at least 46 militants in a ground and air operation against the Taliban in the troubled Lower Dir on Monday, the army has said.

According to security sources, 46 militants including two top commanders Qari Quresh and Maulana Shahid were killed by the Frontier Corps troops in Maidan area of Lower Dir.

Paramilitary troops and helicopter gunships bombed suspected bases in Lower Dir for a second day running, The News reported.

Peshawar, April 24: In the wake of reports emanating from Pakistan that the North West Frontier Province government has made up its mind to launch a military operation in case the “intransigent” Taliban does not agree to vacate Buner district, cease patrolling in Swat and stop moving to other districts, the Taliban has started its withdrawal from Buner, which is located 62 miles from Islamabad.

Peshawar, Apr. 24 : The Taliban has decided to withdraw from the Buner district of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) following orders from its chief Mullah Fazlullah, the Dawn reported the Commissioner of Malakand Division, as saying.

"Our leader has ordered that Taliban should immediately be called back from Buner," Taliban spokeperson Muslim Khan told an international news agency.

Peshawar, Apr. 24 : Concerned at the plight of thousands of people who are at the mercy of the `abusive and repressive' Taliban in the NWFP's Buner district following the insurgent's invasion of the region, the international human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) has severely criticized the Pakistan Government for its callous attitude towards the issue.

"The Pakistani government is fiddling as the North-West Frontier Province burns," AI's Asia-Pacific director Sam Zarifi said.

Peshawar, Apr. 23 : At least eight platoons of paramilitary troops have been dispatched to North West Frontier Province's (NWFP) Buner district to counter the heavy infiltration of the Taliban.

According to sources, eight companies of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) have been sent to the district to safe guard government buildings and bridges, which the government fears the Taliban could attack.
