Petronet LNG, the nation's largest liquefied natural gas importer, has registered 70.24 growth in its net profit to Rs 204.35 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31.

The company had a net profit of Rs 120.03 crore in the same quarter ended March 2008.

Further, the company's total income also rose to Rs 2,654.88 crore in the quarter, up by 51.47% from Rs 1,752.65 crore in the previous year-ago quarter.

For the full year ended March 31, 2009, the company posted a net profit of Rs 518.44 crore, up 9.22 % as compared with Rs 474.66 crore in the last fiscal.

New Delhi, Apr 27: The Election Commission (EC) on Monday rejected a complaint made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mahesh Jethmalani against Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, alleging that he had violated the poll code by appeasing Muslims to garner votes.

“The Commission has not found anything in the CD containing the speech of the Prime Minister,” Deputy Election Commissioner J. P. Prakash told reporters here.

New Delhi - Bollywood actor-filmmaker Feroz Khan, once known as the "Clint Eastwood of the East' for his macho style and swagger, died Monday after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 69. Khan died at 1:30 am (2000 GMT Sunday) at his farmhouse in the southern city of Bangalore.

His funeral was scheduled to take place in the city later on Monday, his family said.

New Delhi - India on Monday welcomed Sri Lankan government's announcement that it would stop using heavy weapons because combat operations in northern parts of the island nation had reached a conclusion, news reports said. "It means cessation of hostilities. It means to the government of India that the Sri Lankan government has put an end to the ongoing offensive," India's Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram was quoted as saying by the PTI news agency as saying.

New Delhi, Apr. 27 : The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the role of 64 people, including that of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the post-Godhra riots cases.

The apex court order was passed in response to a petition filed by Congress parliamentarian Ehsaan Jaffery.

The court asked the SIT to submit the report within three months.
