Protesting teachers baton-charged by police in LucknowLucknow, Feb 12, : Thousands of teachers and employees of non-aided schools across the State who reached here to launch protests demanding higher salaries were baton-charged by the police.

Over 100 teachers gathered outside the Raj Bhawan to take part in the demonstration.

For a long time, the teachers have been waging a war demanding the Government to increase their salaries.

Kalyan SinghLucknow, Feb 2, : The Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday said that he had never given former Bharatiya Janata Party leader a clean chit in the Babri Mosque demolition.

Mulayam Singh recalled that Kalyan Singh had already taken moral responsibility for the demolition when he stepped down as chief minister on December 6, 1992.

He clarified his relations with Kalyan Singh and said, "There is no alliance with Kalyan Singh, its only friendship which have no conditions."

Three crore children to get polio drops todayLucknow, Feb 1: More than three crore children below the age of five will be given polio drops today, at the polio booths set up in 71 districts of Uttar Pradesh under the National Pulse Polio Immunisation Drive.

According to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, India has recorded 196 polio cases till April 22, 2008.

In comparison, three other countries where polio is still endemic - Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan- have together recorded 123 cases.
