Lahore, Oct. 4 :Pak Army reshuffle suggests status quo on Kashmir: Analyst Pakistani military circles are saying that the recent reshuffle undertaken in the army by Chief of Army Staff, General Asfaq Parvez Kayani, is an indication that the armed forces are unlikely to change their policy on Kashmir.

According to an analysis appearing in The News, the changes seem to be part of a much broader shake-up of senior assignments involving 14 new promotions and senior commands.

Pak HR minister Farooq Naek to meet Sarabjit Singh in jail on Monday

Sarabjit SinghLahore, Oct 3: Pakistan’s Law and Human Rights Minister Farooq H. Naek will meet Indian national Sarabjit Singh, who has been lodged in Lahore’s Kotlakhpat Jail for more than a decade.

The meeting is seen as a bid to review Singh’s mercy case, who is facing death sentence over his alleged role in Lahore blasts in 1990 in which several people were killed. The Pakistan’s Supreme Court and former President Pervez Musharraf have already rejected his mercy pleas.

US envoy says N-cooperation with Pak not possible

Lahore, Sept 30 : It was not possible for the US to extend any cooperation to Pakistan in nuclear energy sector as the issue “involved a lot of legislation”, said US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W. Patterson here last evening.

She said that the US did not want to destabilise Pakistan, rather it was making efforts to make the country a stable and economically viable state.

Addressing members of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry here, she said that the US wanted long-term, broad-based relations with Pakistan, and that Washington would soon announce a 100 million dollars package for Pakistan’s agriculture sector.

Christians, Hindus in Pak claim possession of temple

Lahore, Sept 27 : A temple in Lahore has become the centre of feud between the Hindus and the Christians. While both the communities claim full rights over the temple, with each putting forth arguments in its favour, the Christian converts (Hindus who converted to Christianity) currently assume control of the temple site.

The ancestors of the Balmiki Christians, who currently have possession of the temple, converted to Christianity from Hinduism about 30 years ago, but are still affiliated with the Swami Balmiki, for whom the temple was built.

They maintain that they have full rights to the temple despite being Christians, and will not give it up, reported the Daily Times.
