CPM MP expelled for praising Modi

narendra modiKannur, Mar 7 : The Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPM) on Saturday expelled its MP from Kannur, A. P. Abullakutty, for praising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's development model.

He was charged with repeated breach of discipline by `joining class enemies'.

CPM has said in a statement that the Kannur MP had embarrassed the party by stating the efforts of Modi to bring development to his state were worthy of emulation.

Abullakutty was suspended from the party for one year on January 17.

The State Government accorded him a grand welcome at a function held here.

Pookutty, who hails from Kerala''s Kollam district said, "This is a grandeur welcome that anybody can hope to get. I am completely elated. I can''t explain. I don''t have words."

Pookutty, who won the sound mixing Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire, will be in Kerala till March 13. During this period, he will attend several events across the State.

Kerala To Provide Mobile Phones To Policemen As part of the total modernization of intelligence system, the government of Kerala has decided to provide broad-band Internet connections to all police headquarters, and cell phones to all police personnel in the State.

Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan stated that cell phones would be offered to all State police members without charging any cost.

The minister also said that presently only officers of the rank of sub inspector and above enjoy this facility.
