Security beefed up ahead of 4th phase of J-K Assembly polls

Badgam (J-K), Dec 6: In the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks, the authorities have beefed up security in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the fourth phase of the seven-phased assembly polls in the region.

Eighteen constituencies are going to polls on Sunday in the state.

Personnel of the paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) have been deployed in the region to ensure free and fair polls.

A total of 107 companies of BSF have been deployed in the regions going to polls on Sunday.

Following the Mumbai terror attacks the BSF has pulled out all stops to prevent any untoward incident during the polls.

J&K fourth phase polling on SundayThe fourth phase of polling for J&K assembly will be held on Dec 7, Sunday.

As many as 12 constituencies located in north Kashmir’s Baramulla and central Badgam districts will go to the polls on that day.

There are 902,951 eligible voters including 518,964 voters of Baramulla district and Badgam has 383,987.

The fate of as many as 13 senior politicians and former ministers will be decided on Sunday. In all, 176 candidates are in the fray in seven constituencies of Baramulla and five of Badgam.

Stage set for fourth phase of polling in J-K

Srinagar, Dec 6 : The stage has been set for the fourth phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir scheduled to take place tomorrow.

In this phase, twelve constituencies of Baramulla and Buddgam districts along with six other constituencies in Reasi and Udhampur districts in Jammu will go to the polls.

Earlier, an Election Commission of India team had reviewed poll arrangements for the remaining four phases of elections at a meeting in Srinagar.

The fifth, sixth and seventh phase of polls in the state will be held on December 13, 17 and 24.

Two phases of the seven-phased elections have been successfully concluded with the active participation of the people.

Srinagar, Dec 5: Elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure that the fourth phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are held in a free and fair manner on Sunday.

In this phase, twelve constituencies of Baramulla and Buddgam districts along with six other constituencies in Reasi and Udhampur districts in Jammu will go to the polls.

The election campaign in Budgam and Baramulla districts will come to an end this afternoon.

On Thursday, a Election Commission of India team reviewed poll arrangements for the remaining four phases of elections at a meeting in Srinagar.

Sonia Gandhi says India will not bow before terrorism

Sonia GandhiUri (Srinagar), Dec 3 : Congress president Sonia Gandhi today said that India will never bow before terrorism and will give a befitting reply.

Addressing a public meeting in border town of Uri, Gandhi said the country has taken several steps to have a friendly relationship with our neighbours.

“Terror has no religion and there will be no compromise with those who are against humanity and human values,” she added.

On the Kashmir issue, Gandhi said "we are ready for talks at any level within the framework of Constitution for the welfare of the people".

Terrorism is a global threat, coordinated efforts required, says Farooq Abdullah
