Srinagar, Feb. 7, : Kashmir valley on Saturday attracted the scores of tourists with its fresh spell of snowfall.

Srinagar is under a thick blanket of snow with trees, rooftops, roads and parks covered with snow.

Tourists are also thronging hill resorts of Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg to enjoy various snow activities.

New Delhi, Feb. 6, : Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad and Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz were declared unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir in the biennial polls on Friday.

The Returning Officer for the polls, M. Ramzan said, "Since there was no other candidate contesting against them, Soz and Azad have been declared elected unopposed."

The Election Comission had earlier issued three notifications for four Rajya Sabha seats for Jammu and Kashmir.

Gulmarg, Feb 5 : Tourists are thronging Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir state to take part in the annual Snow Festival.

The Snow Festival involving a number of events like snow cycling, ice hockey and snow rugby kick-started on Tuesday.

The festival was inaugurated by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Minister Nawan Rigzin Jora.

"As far as the games are concerned, there are plenty of games like ice skating, ice hockey, rugby, cycling and other small events. The motto of the festival is to tell people that Gulmarg has a good snowfall," said Shabir Ahmed, co-ordinator, Snow Festival.

The tourists from various parts of India have arrived in Gulmarg to participate in snow sports.

Jammu, Jan. 30 : The newly elected Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah's three day visit to New Delhi, has proved to be quite beneficial to his State, said an official spokesman here.

During his visit to the national capital, the Chief Minister received assurances of full support for the development of the health and education sectors in Jammu and Kashmir apart from sanctioning of funds for various projects.

Srinagar, Jan. 30 : A large number of people took to streets in Srinagar to protest detentions of various separatist leaders since Jammu and Kashmir State Assembly elections were held here.

The slogan shouting protesters were led by a senior seperatist leader Shabir Ahmed.

"Till the time our leaders are not released from house arrest, we will continue to protest," said Ahmad, a Muslim League leader.

Local security personnel had to use tear gas after the protesters resorted to heavy stone pelting on them.
