Yeddyurappa to review situation in Karnataka after attack on churches

Bangalore, Sept 22 :Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa will review the prevailing law and order situation in the state with his cabinet ministers here today, after the recent attacks on churches.

Even yesterday, a mob had attacked three churches in the city. Earlier, on September 14, suspected activists of Bajrang Dal attacked at least nine churches in the state as a mark of protest against the alleged conversion of Hindus to Christianity.

Bangalore, Sept 21: Fresh incidents of attack on churches in BangaloreThree churches were reportedly attacked in Bangalore this morning.

According to reports, some unidentified persons attacked the churches in Mariyannapalya, Banasawadi and Rajarajeswara Nagar here at around 4:30 a. m. today.

The attacks came after the arrest of Bajrang Dal state convenor Mahendra Kumar on Friday night from Mangalore in connection with the recent communal violence in the state.

Mahendra Kumar, convenor of the Karnataka Bajrang Dal, an offshoot of the Hindu right-wing Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP - World Hindu Council) was detained in Mangalore district on Friday on charges of criminal conspiracy and promoting enmity between different religious groups, PTI news agency reported.

Karnataka Bajrang Dal convener arrestedMangalore, Sept 20: The Karnataka convener of the Bajrang Dal, Mahendra Kumar, was arrested late last night by Mangalore Police in connection with the churches and prayer halls attack case.

Three cases, including that of disturbing communal harmony, have been lodged against Kumar, who will be in judicial custody for the next 15 days.

After his arrest, Kumar said that he and the Bajarang Dal activists are prepared to go behind bars to protect the interest of Hindus.

Centre issues advisory to Karnataka over attacks on churches

New Delhi, Sept 19: After issuing an advisory to Karnataka Government to bring the situation under control following attacks on churches and prayer halls, the Home Ministry on Friday put the state on alert and directed it to report to the Centre on the steps taken to deal with the situation.

Warning the state to put a stop to these attacks or face the consequences, Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta said that the Home Ministry was closely monitoring the Karnataka situation and added that the State Government has been told to report back to the Centre on the steps to check these attacks.

Karnataka offers 1,000 acres of land to Tata

KarnatakaBangalore, Sept 18 : Karnataka government today offered 1,000 acres of land in case the company decides to relocate its Nano car project.

After the meeting with State Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, Tata Motors Managing Director G Ravikanth said that Karnataka would give all support, assistance and required incentives in case of re-locating the plant

"The project requires about 1,000 acres of land. It is an integrated project," Ravikanth said.
