Seven persons die of cold in quake-hit BalochistanIslamabad, Nov 17 : At least seven people, including a child and five women, died of chilling cold in the earthquake-hit Karezat tehsil of Balochistan province in Pakistan.

Quoting a TV report, the Daily Times reported that temperature in the area had fallen to minus 10 degree Celsius, but people have not yet been given tents to protect them against the intensifying clod.

Suicide attack kills three Pakistani soldiers

PakistanIslamabad - A suicide attacker killed at least three troops and injured three more Monday at an army check post in Pakistan's restive north-west Swat valley, a local military spokesman said.

"A suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into the post at around 11:45 am in Gashkor village of the district," Colonel Nadeem Ahmad told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

The post was completely destroyed in the attack, he said.

Suicide-attack-hit Pak’s Marriott hotel to have bombproof wallIslamabad, Nov 17 : The Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, which faced the most dreadful suicide attack in Pakistan’s history claiming more than 50 lives, will have a bomb-proof wall around it to protect it against terrorist attacks in the future, said the hotel administration.

Quoting hotel sources, a TV channel reported that a concrete wall would also be built alongside the bombproof wall.

Pak govt says journalists’ safety important

Islamabad, Nov 16 : Following the recent kidnappings of Japanese and Canadian journalists and threatening phone calls to a local TV journalist, Pakistan Information and Broadcasting Minister Sherry Rehman has said that journalists’ safety was important for the country’s government.

She assured journalists of government’s support in the face of threats from extremists. 

“The safety and security of journalists is an important priority with the government, as we are committed to a media environment free from a culture of threats and intimidation,” the Daily Times quoted Sherry as saying in a press release.
