Rehman slams Sharif for criticism of Govt. handling of Mumbai terror attacks

Islamabad, Dec. 19 : Pakistan Information Minister Sherry Rehman has criticized PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif for attacking the PPP-led government in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks.

Referring to an interview of Sharif aired on a private television channel, Rehman said: "It is unfortunate that the leadership of a major political party, which we want to work with for rebuilding democracy and overcoming challenges, chooses a sensitive time to launch an attack on the government when the country needs nationalunity and consensus."

Sharif in his interview called Pakistan a failed and ungovernable state, the News reported.

Sharif vehemently criticised the military rule of General Parvez Musharraf, and said that the General's regime made the country ungovernable.

Pakistan to get Chinese airborne surveillance system

Under the 278-million-dollar deal, the unmanned surveillance aircraft will be delivered to Pakistan during the next four years on a deferred payment basis, according to English-language daily The News.

Pakistani Minister for Defence Production Abdul Qayyum Khan Jatoi presented the details of the agreement to the country's lower house of parliament on Wednesday.

Pakistani police uncover plot to murder Musharraf, report saysIslamabad - Pakistani police have unearthed a plot to assassinate ex-president Pervez Musharraf and the revelation forced the former strongman to flee the country, a media report said Thursday.

Police have alleged the conspiracy was masterminded by Sheikh Omar, a militant linked to al-Qaeda, who is on death row in a prison in the southern city of Hyberabad for the 2002 murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl.

Pakistan summons Indian envoy over airspace violation

Islamabad - Pakistani authorities on Thursday summoned a senior Indian diplomat to lodge a formal protest over last week's alleged airspace violation by Indian fighter jets.

According to a statement by the Foreign Ministry, Indian Deputy High Commissioner Manpreet Vohra was handed a diplomatic note "conveying the concern of the Government of Pakistan on technical and airspace violations by Indian aircraft on 12 and 13 December
2008."

The Indian action was "in non-conformity with the 1991 Agreement between Pakistan and India on Prevention of Air Space Violations," it said further.
