My dear countrymen, brothers, sisters and my dear children.

Greetings to all of you on this happy occasion of our Independence Day.

This is a sacred day for every Indian.

Today we remember the sacrifice of those who under the leadership of

Mahatma Gandhi fought for our freedom from foreign rule.

New Delhi - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in his Independence Day speech Friday, strongly defended his government's decision to pursue a civilian nuclear deal with the United States and talked of the need for political consensus to battle issues like terrorism, extremism and communalism.

Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort in New Delhi after unfurling the national flag, Singh dwelled on a range of issues, including relations with Pakistan.

Dell, which is a well known PC major, is hopeful that its India business would touch a billion dollars by next year.

Michael Dell, who is the Founder chairman and CEO of the company, was extremely excited about the growth in India, and had come to India for the launch of new ultra-portable business series laptops.

Singapore - An India-based group with interests in the information-communication technology sector is setting up its global headquarters in Singapore, armed with a 
200-million-US-dollar war chest, news reports said Friday.

The city-state was picked because of its proximity to the fast- growing "Israel-to-Indonesia" market, The Business Times quoted Spice Corp Chairman BK Modi as saying.

Jammu, Aug 14 : At least ten migrant labourers were killed when a truck skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway today.

According to police, the ill-fated truck which was on its way from Srinagar to Jammu, skidded off the road while negotiating a curve at Anokhi fall near Battery Chashma in Ramban district early this morning.

The labourers are reported to have boarded the truck at Qazi gund and Lower Munda for their journey to Jammu and then onwards to Bihar.
