Tokyo - Japanese securities house Nomura Holdings Inc has reached a basic agreement to purchase Indian units of failed US investment bank Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc, Japan's Nikkei business daily said Friday.

The Nikkei reported that Nomura, Japan s biggest securities firm, would take over the information technology development and back-office operations of Lehman Brothers as well as more than 2,000 employees in India.

Washington - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will head to India this week to put the final stamp on a historic accord the allows the United States to sell nuclear technology to India, the State Department said Thursday.

Rice departs Friday for New Delhi after the Senate overwhelmingly approved the agreement Wednesday evening in the final legislative move required before it goes for President George W Bush's signature.

New Delhi, Oct 2 : Celebrating the passage of Indo-US civil nuclear deal by a thumping majority of 86-13 votes in the Senate, US Ambassador to India David Mulford said on Thursday that it is a great day for both the democracies and deal has finally become a reality.

The US Congress today approved the Indo-US civil nuclear deal when the Senate overwhelmingly voted a Bill rejecting all the killer amendments, and paving the way for the implementation of the historic initiative between the two countries.
