Elephant gored to death by another tusker in Jim Corbett Park

AlmoraJim Corbett (Uttarakhand), Nov 18 : Wildlife officials at Jim Corbett National Park on Monday discovered an elephant gored to death by another tusker.

The carcass of the badly mauled elephant, about 35 years old, was found by officials near a river flowing through the park.

India's finance minister asks industry to cut prices New Delhi  - Indian Finance Minister P Chidamabaram on Tuesday asked industry to cut prices and maintain production levels and said he was confident that the economy would bounce back in a year, news reports said.

"We will take steps to stimulate the domestic economy to compensate for the downside caused by the downturn in the world economy," Chidambaram said at the Davos-based World Economic Forum's India Economic Summit in New Delhi.

Finance Minister P. ChidambaramNew Delhi, Nov 18 : Finance Minister P. Chidambaram today said that India will take steps to stimulate the economy to offset the impact of the global economic slowdown.

Addressing at the World Economic Forum''s India Summit here, the Minister said, "India has already cut interest rates and taken a series of measures to boost liquidity in its banking system after the credit crisis spilled into its markets in October."

Egyptian president to hold talks with Indian premier

New Delhi  - Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak, who is on a four-day state visit to India to strengthen strategic and economic ties, was scheduled to hold talks Tuesday with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Singh and Mubarak, who was visiting India for the first time in 25 years, were expected to discuss enhancing economic ties as well as cooperation in world bodies like the United Nations and World Trade Organization, diplomatic officials said.

The Egyptian leader - accompanied by a 150-member delegation, including five senior ministers and leading businessmen - was accorded a ceremonial reception earlier in the day at the presidential palace in New Delhi.

Addressing the session on "Risks to India''''s Economy in a Post – Crisis World" at the 24th India Economic Summit jointly organized by Confederation of Indian Industry and World Economic Forum here, Chidambaram showed great optimism about the prospect for growth in India.
