No respite from heat, Delhi experiences hottest day in 50 yearsNew Delhi, Apr 29: Majority of Delhiites remained indoors or used protective gears, as the national capital experienced the hottest day of April in last 50 years with mercury touching 43.5 degree Celsius.

Director of Indian Meteorological Department B P Yadav said the temperature on April 29 is a record for the month of April in the past
50 years.

The Met Department said Wednesday’s temperature was five degrees above normal during this period of time and it rose from Tuesday’s 42.2 degree Celsius.

Jaipur on alert following bomb hoax on planeJaipur, Apr. 29: Jaipur Airport was placed on a state of high alert on Wednesday evening after air traffic control was informed of a bomb on board flight number IC-661.

Air traffic control said they had received an anonymous call from Mumbai informing them of the bomb onboard.

The plane had left from Mumbai for Dubai. It landed at Jaipur as soon as the hoax call was made. Passengers were asked to disembark and escorted into the airport lounge and provided with refreshments. They were asked not to panic.

Four killed in bizarre train accident in southern India

TAMILNADUNew Delhi - Four people were killed and 11 injured Wednesday in a bizarre train accident in southern India when unknown persons drove an empty train out of a station leading to a collision with a goods train, officials said. "The empty rake which was waiting at a suburban terminal near Chennai was removed by some unauthorized miscreants onto the sector track and it collided with a goods train coming from the opposite direction," Southern Railways chief public relations officer Meenu Ittyerah said.

The accident took place at the Vyasarpadi Jeeva station in the north-western suburbs of Chennai, capital of Tamil Nadu state.

Security beefed up across India for third phase of electionsMumbai/ Ahmedabad, Apr 29 : Tight security arrangements have been made across the country for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections on Thursday.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made in Maharashtra, where polling for 10 seats will be held.

Out of the 10 constituencies, six constituencies fall in Mumbai while the remaining four are in adjacent Thane district.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said that the security arrangements are planned and executed as per the guidelines of the Election Commission.

Videocon to launch its DTH Services D2H from May 1

Videocon to launch its DTH Services D2H from May 1After a delay of nearly one and–a half-year, Diversified group Videocon has finalized May 1 as commercial launch date of its DTH Services.

Giving information regarding latest venture, a company official said, the platform has been named "D2H" and will be offered through its subsidiary Bharat Business Channel Ltd (BBCL), which is a media arm of Videocon Group.

The company with the launch of its service will become sixth DTH operator in the market, along with Dish TV, Tata Sky, Airtel, Big TV and Sun TV.
